Local Middle-School Students Get Summer Music Camp at Alabama State University

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on June 15, 2016 Does your child wish they were still playing in the band or singing in the choir, even though school is out? Well, good news; Alabama State University’s Department of Music has opened registration for its Middle School Summer Music Camp. The Music Camp will take place Monday through Thursday, June 27-30, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Tullibody Music Building on ASU campus. The camp is for rising 7th through 9th-grade band and choral students with a minimum of one year's experience. Students should bring their own instruments to camp. Students will spend the day playing fun music in large and small ensembles, going to technique classes, learning about music history, theory, playing in a piano lab and creating a notebook of what they learn; all under the tutelage of experts from ASU's faculty members. “The Music Camp is a great way for students to retain learning skills and concepts over the summer,” said Dr. Caterina Bristol, associate professor of music. The camp closes with a final concert, which parents, family members and friends are encouraged to attend. For registration info visit www.alasu.edu/msmc or call 334-229-4341 for more information. “Tuition scholarships are available,” said Bristol.
