Alabama State University Receives $250,000 Grant to Aid & Assist the Dept. of Defense

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on June 15, 2016 Alabama State University has been awarded a $250,000 federal grant from the Department of Defense (DOD) Air Force Research Laboratory. The grant is for ASU to establish a state-of-the-art facility for research and education to assist the DOD in specific areas of interest, which will include tissue engineering, biomedical and materials engineering, as well as chemistry, physics, and forensic science applications suitable for advanced materials for defense systems. The grant will also strengthen the education and training of ASU students involved in this process by providing them with educational tools that can be utilized in research experiences and hands-on lab modules training as the University supports the defense interests of the nation. The grant will be supervised and overseen by ASU's Dr. Derrick Dean alongside Elijah Nyairo, both of whom are with the ASU College of Science, Mathematics and Technology.
