Hampton, Va - Hampton University assistant professor April Woodard to co-host "Coast Live" a new weekday lifestyle morning show at 10am on WTKR News 3.

Woodard, an award winning journalist and Chesapeake native returns to the station where she began her career as a reporter. Woodard has worked nationally as a correspondent for Inside Edition and BET. She has also appeared on network TV as a pop culture expert on HLN, MSNBC and FOX. Woodard presently teaches at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at HU.

“Congratulations to Professor Woodard on her new anchor position with WTKR," said HU President Dr. William R. Harvey. "Professor Woodard continues to be a shining example of the type of educators we employ at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications here at Hampton University.

Professor Woodard continues to help cultivate and inspire the next generation of journalists while maintaining her position as an award winning and in demand journalist.”

"Coast Live" will celebrate people and places, the sights and sounds, the food, fun and flair that is our coastal lifestyle in Hampton Roads. Woodard will co-host the show with Cheryl Nelson when the show premieres in September.

"This is exciting news for Professor Woodard and for HU's Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications," said B. Davida Plummer, Dean of Scripps Howard." We are not surprised that she was tapped to anchor. She's a pro, committed both to her craft and to investing in young journalists at Hampton. We are very proud of our Professor Woodard."
