Labor-Day Weekend Concert:
Citywide Nat King Cole Society Jazz Festival Returns to Montgomery

WHEN: Sept. 4 (Sunday) starting at 4 p.m. With a special Riverboat Jazz Cruise at 11 a.m.

WHERE: Montgomery's Riverwalk Amphitheater, which is downtown in Montgomery.

Alabama State University's National Public Radio station - WVAS 90.7 FM - will present the second annual Nat King Cole Society Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 4, at the Riverwalk Amphitheater in downtown Montgomery. The Jazz Festival will pay tribute to both Natalie and Montgomery native, Nat King Cole, whose boyhood home is preserved and located on the campus of ASU.

JAZZ RIVER CRUISE @ 11 a.m. ---- JAZZ CONCERT @ 4 P.M.
The gates open at 3 p.m. and it’s “horns in the air” at 4 p.m. for the jazz concert, which is being held at the Riverwalk Amphitheater, but there is also additional great fun and music starting that morning on the river.

The Jazz Festival will be preceded by a jazz cruise on the Harriott II Riverboat, which will board at 11 a.m. The event is sponsored by Alabama State University’s Division of Continuing Education, the Montgomery County Commission and McDonald’s.

PERFORMER'S LIST
The Jazz Festival artists include Montgomery’s own Ron Handy; King Bee, recent winners of the 2016 Battle of the Blues Bands competition; Hart Ramsey, jazz keyboardist extraordinaire; and headliner Maysa, who will perform a tribute to Natalie and Nat King Cole with the Nat King Cole AllStars from SOON Music Studio.

FOOD, FUN & VENDORS
The event also will include a variety of food and other vendors, as well as fun activities for the children.

TICKETS
Tickets are $20 for adults for the Jazz Festival or for the cruise -- or $35 for both. Tickets are $1 for children who are 12 years-old and under and are available only at the gate.

Area Jazz Festival ticket outlets include Heritage Barber Shop, Ted the Wine Guy, Filet & Vine and Another Chance Package Store. Cruise or combo tickets are available at WVAS Radio Station only, and online sales are available at www.wvasfm.org.

THE SPONSOR - ASU's WVAS-FM
WVAS-FM, the “Voice of Alabama State University,” is an award-winning, non-commercial/non-profit, 80,000-watt public radio station. Located at 90.7 on the FM dial, the station is the region’s “Jazz, Blues, News and Views” leader. Broadcasting 24 hours each day since 1984, its reach extends to a 17-county service area in South Central Alabama and more than 100,000 listeners weekly. Through the station’s 24-hour Internet stream, listeners worldwide are treated to music and news from the American South. The station’s program schedule is made up of locally-originated jazz, blues, public affairs, gospel and sports programming, as well as news and cultural programming from NPR and a variety of independent producers.
