Law Enforcement Helps ASU Students Move-in to Establish Better Understanding

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on August 11, 2016 Law Enforcement Helps ASU Students Move-in & Establish a Better Understanding Between Each Other! WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 13. Best times are between 10 a.m. & Noon. WHERE: Dunn Tower (best location); Hatch Drive & S. University (tallest building on campus). Join us at Alabama State University on Saturday as we embark upon a first-ever inaugural event to advance understanding, community togetherness and help our students settle back in as school starts back up. Our ASU Housing & Residence Hall staff have put a new spin on coming back and moving into school, which is innovative, helpful and timely. SATURDAY - LAW ENFORCEMENT & STUDENTS - WORKING TOGETHER As we welcome our new and returning Alabama State University students on campus Saturday (as they move into their residence halls laden with boxes and personal items), they will be greeted with a helping hand ----- from local law enforcement officers. That's right, uniformed members of the Montgomery Police Dept., ASU Public Safety Dept. and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office will be present for the first-time ever to give our students assistance from "the long arm of the law." The officers will actually help carry our students' items into their campus rooms to help them move-into ASU, and to establish a rapport and enhance a better understanding that the officers are on duty throughout the year to safeguard them and their property. In light of the recent issues reported in the news between the public and law enforcement, ASU wants to bring the two groups together because when people work together and communicate, they better understand and respect one another. This is just one of the many ways that ASU reaches out to bring the community and the campus closer together. Join us for this innovative and historic interplay - I will be present to help with your reporting.
