Bethune Cookman University Proudly Reports Record Enrollment Numbers For Fall 2016

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on October 14, 2016 University Welcomed Largest Freshmen Class and Overall Student Body in School History Bethune-Cookman University is experiencing historical enrollment numbers for its new academic year. Thus far, the university has welcomed 1,177 freshmen and a total of 3,964 students, both the largest numbers ever reported by the university. The university expects to welcome more students for Subterm II, an accelerated semester, in October. The students for the B-CU graduating class of 2020 have already created a footprint for student success. The Office of Admissions reported the incoming freshman class is one of the most academically prepared classes to enter the university in over three years. The current freshman class exceeded SAT and ACT testing requirements for student admissions; and has accepted over 200 scholarships, the highest amount of offered and accepted scholarships for an incoming class at B-CU. Director of Admissions, Manicia Finch stated, “I am so proud of my team for the hard work they have put in to prepare our incoming freshman. Our success has come from the strength of better communication and activities such as Wildcat Day, B-CU Connect Day and our spring recruitment tours across the Southern region and California,” she stated. The Office of Admissions saw an increase in enrollment in five new states including, Alabama; Louisiana; North Carolina; Minnesota; and Missouri. Over 600 students and families attended new student orientation during the summer months, where they were welcomed by student leaders and administration to tour the university and learn more about the expectations as a new student. The projection for the upcoming year is to begin cultivating the rising high school seniors that have already applied to the university. To date, B-CU has received 529 applications from the high school class of 2017 and 100 transfer students have been identified from California community colleges. “We have already emailed 1,700 perspective students and mailed out 498 letters for the upcoming freshman class; and we will continue following up with them and inviting them to our campus for events,” Finch said. B-CU has exceeded the expected target enrollment percent for 2016 by over 7%. The Office of Admissions plans to penetrate areas for student growth in underrepresented schools such as (environmental science, education, and business.) Additionally, the admissions team will strategize to drive students to understand processes and becoming college ready through communication, organization and online application submissions, which has doubled in number in the last few years.
