Although it certainly isn¡¦t the most important part of your university experience, having a homecoming that everyone flocks to is ~amazing~. HBCUs compete to outdo each other with celebrity appearances, epic fashion shows, amazing concerts, step shows, and so much more. Case in point: Drake made an impromptu performance with 2Chainz at Howard University¡¦s 2012 Homecoming Yardfest event decked out in a red Howard University sweater. 2. Almost every course students take works black history and culture into its curriculum. From Africa to slavery to now, many students¡¦ elementary through high school education didn¡¦t include much coverage of the complexities of the black experience in America. HBCUs spend four years giving students an understanding of the resilient, powerful heritage they come from. They also often require students to complete coursework dedicated specifically to African-American history and culture.
