Jeepers Creepers 2 Actor/Writer at Alabama State University Today for Book Signing

Jeepers Creepers 2 Actor/Writer at Alabama State University Today for Book Signing
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on November 09, 2016

WHEN: TONIGHT (Wednesday), Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.
WHERE: At the ASU Leila Barlow Theatre; corner of North University and South Jackson St.

“Jeepers Creepers 2” actor and author Thom Gossom Jr. is bringing his Alabama book tour to Alabama State University

TONIGHT (Wednesday), Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. to the Leila Barlow Theatre.

The Birmingham native will discuss and sign his new book, “A Slice of Life,” which takes readers inside the lives of average people facing extraordinary circumstances. Readers go on a journey through the “new normal” of “the race issue” in a newly integrated Alabama of the 1960s and 1970s.

The event is free and open to the public.

“A Slice of Life” is a collection of life stories that continues with “Another Slice of Life,” which takes place in the ‘80s and’90s, and “The Rest of the Pie,” which is a look at life in the 21st century. The collection is published by Aquarius Press/Willow Books.

“I had so many stories to tell,” says Gossom in a news release. And while we’ve come so far, as exhibited by today’s news stories, ‘the race issue’ never seems to really go away.”

Gossom is the first African-American athlete to graduate from Auburn University.

A football walk on, Gossom defied the integration odds, earned a scholarship and became a three-year starter.

He is an author and a playwright. His memoir is titled “Walk-On: My Reluctant Journey To Integration at Auburn University.”

ACTING CREDITS: As an actor, his memorable television roles include Israel, the title character, in the Emmy-winning “NYPD Blue” episode “Lost Israel.” His other TV roles include “Reckless,” “Drop Dead Diva,” “Game of Your Life,” “CSI,” “Boston Legal,” “ER,” “Miss Evers’ Boys” and “Containment.” He is featured in the HBO special, “Breaking the Huddle,” about the integration of Southern college football. Gossom’s film credit includes “Fight Club” and “Jeepers Creepers 2.”
When Gossom is not tackling acting or writing, there is plenty more to keep him busy. The trailblazer is the founder and president of Best Gurl inc., a public relations and communication firm.

Gossom’s community duties include serving as chair of the Auburn University Foundation Board, executive-in-residence for Auburn Athletics and as director of the Okaloosa County Tourism Board. He’s been a member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1983.

Gossom and his wife live in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
