Johnson C. Smith University Board of Trustees Announces Presidential Search Committee
|
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on November 11, 2016 The search for Johnson C. Smith University’s 14th president began today with the announcement of the 11-member Presidential Search Committee comprised of JCSU Trustees and faculty. Members of the committee were appointed by Shirley J. Hughes, chair of the JCSU Board of Trustees. Hughes will also chair the Presidential Search Committee, which will conduct a national search for a successor to Dr. Ronald L. Carter, who has led JCSU since 2008. Carter announced this past August that he will leave the University on June 30, 2017. Hughes said the first charge for the search committee is to hire an executive search firm, which is expected to be named by the end of November. “The strategic direction of the University will inform the final position description and the characteristics we desire in our 14th president,” said Hughes. The Board does not plan a big change in strategic direction because we want to continue our forward trajectory.” Members of the Presidential Search Committee have more than 100 years of combined human resources experience, with several of them having served as human resources executives. The current Chair and former Board Chair Monroe Miller both served on the previous Presidential Search Committee that selected President Carter. The committee plans to name a new president by June 2017. JCSU is celebrating 150 years of being at the forefront in providing a high quality liberal arts education to diverse students. Hughes said this is an auspicious time in the University’s history to attract strong candidates. “I am encouraged that Johnson C. Smith University offers an excellent story and testament to urban education,” said Hughes. “I am confident that the search will generate top candidates who are interested in an attractive position with an institution that is thriving and setting the pace for the continuation of liberal arts education as an independent new urban university.” Members of the Presidential Search Committee are: Shirley J.
