5 Fun Ways to Utilize a Storage Unit in College

It makes sense for many college students to utilize storage during the summertime when they move out of the dorm. However, there are many other ways to use a storage unit company that many people don't think about. If you're looking to enjoy your storage unit in a different way while you're in college, consider these ideas. 1. Private Study AreaThere are times when the dorm is very noisy. Even though the library is supposed to be a quiet environment, the campus library can easily turn into a social meet-up for many people. To avoid this issue, try going to your storage unit and studying there. As long as it's a climate-controlled environment, you shouldn't have a problem. What you'll need to do is purchase a simple desk from a place like Ikea. You can use a battery-operated lamp if there's no lamp inside of the unit. If you need access to the internet, you can activate a Wi-Fi hotspot from your phone. Just make sure your laptop is fully charged when you go so that you won't be at a loss if there's no electrical outlet. 2. Organize Seasonal WardrobeIf your dorm room is like most, you probably have to share it with one or two roommates. Chances are you don't have a lot of space for your clothes either. That dream of having a walk-in closet may seem like it has to be on hold. That's not necessarily the case. You can have a seasonal closet right in your storage unit. If the current season is fall, take all of the spring, winter and summer clothes, shoes and accessories and hang them in the storage unit. You can purchase clothing racks and shoe organizers to make it look really attractive. 3. Nowadays, many people are finding their inner television reporter and creating YouTube videos. YouTube videos are also a great form of passive income. In order to do well, you'll need to maintain a good recording space. Double the storage unit into a recording studio for your videos. Purchase a great backdrop to camouflage the background of the storage unit. Lighting is important so purchase a ring light and some umbrella lights. You'll also want to invest in a portable power outlet so you're not stuck without a way to power up all your devices and create interesting content. 4. WorkshopIf you love a good DIY project, you might want to start doing furniture rehab projects. Purchase an item at the local thrift store like a nightstand. Take it to your storage unit and begin to work on it there. You can sand it down and paint it. Once it looks like a brand new piece, sell it online and turn a profit. This is a fun way to make a little extra money and enjoy a passion at the same time. 5. Retail StoreIt's important to check the rules and regulations of your particular storage unit center, but consider opening a temporary retail store if it’s allowed. You can advertise it on campus. Whether you sell clothes, jewelry, shoes or books, it's a great way to store all of your merchandise without having to deal with a lot of overhead expenses. If you're interested in trying this out, make sure to work on advertising and coordinating the times the shop will be "open" for business. These five ideas are unique and fun ways to enjoy a storage unit during your college years. All of these ideas invite a level of commitment and investment.
