Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on December 15, 2016 Alcorn State University’s Department of Social Work received reaffirmation accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education through 2024. The Council on Social Work Education is a nonprofit, national association that represents more than 2,500 individual members, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs of professional social work education. Founded in 1952, this partnership of educational and professional institutions, social welfare agencies and private citizens is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the sole accrediting agency for social work education in this country. Dr. Dorothy A. Idleburg, chair and professor for the Department of Social Work, led the program through the reaffirmation accreditation process. This process includes a self-study and a site visit to campus by Council on Social Work Education representatives. “We are proud of our accomplishments and the recognition of our faculty, staff, students, advisory board and field instructors for their hard work and dedication to achieving reaffirmation of accreditation,” said Idleburg. “We look forward to preparing our students for careers in the field of social work and graduate school.” The Mississippi State Board of Institutions of Higher Learning approved the establishment of Alcorn’s Department of Social Work in 2013. -ALCORN- Alcorn State University is a premier comprehensive land-grant university that develops diverse students into globally competitive leaders, and applies scientific research through collaborative partnerships that benefit the surrounding communities, state, nation, and world.
