Law School Testing: Best Tips to Help You Master the LSAT Logic Games

Law School Testing: Best Tips to Help You Master the LSAT Logic Games
Posted By: Hannah Whittenly on January 03, 2017

The logic games are often seen as the single most difficult component of the LSAT, and that has many students worrying for months leading up to this test. While the LSAT is designed to challenge students, it can also be overcome with the proper attitude and some hard work.

Practice Like You Test

No matter what plan you have laid out in the months leading up to your LSAT, you should be sure that you consistently practice like you are actually taking the test. Unfortunately, that means you will need to put time constraints on your tests and constantly push yourself to improve your scores.

Don't Rely Exclusively on a Prep Course

Professional prep courses can be very useful for many students, but they should not be viewed as a free pass to cut back on your studying. These courses are nothing more than a supplement that will steer you in the right direction and give you a better idea of how this test is carried out. Most LSAT courses run for about two months, and they rarely focus on the logic games for more than two or three weeks.

Take a Few Minutes to Create a Plan

On the actual day of the test, you should take about 60 seconds to decide which logic games you plan on completing first. Many schools suggest spending a minute to consider the logistics of a test before writing down any answers at all. With the proper layout, you can be sure you are making the most out of the time you are given.

Save the Toughest Games Until Last

This section has four different games with five to seven questions per game. By tackling the easiest games first, you might be able to warm up your thoughts and boost your confidence for the last few games. You will then have a much longer period to work through the hardest questions without feeling as if you are going to run out of time.

Memorize the Rules

One of the most common mistakes that students make is skimming over the rules once and hoping they understand everything. Depending on how quickly you are able to memorize the rules, you might need to go over them six or more times before you fully comprehend them. By memorizing the rules, you can avoid losing points due to careless mistakes.

Prepare Continuously

Whether or not you plan on attending a physical university or getting your masters in law online, studying really hard for the LSAT and doing really well on the logic games is going to be a very important thing for you to do. As you practice before taking the exam, you’re going to want to keep things speedy. After all, you’re only going to have 35 minutes to finish this portion of the exam. The faster and more proficient you are at it, the better you will do on the exam. Keep practicing until you can consistently finish the practice versions of this portion within the time limit.

These logic games essentially force students to think like computers as they work their way through complex problems. While they might be intimidating, students can overcome them with enough practice and a clear mind.
