NSU Hires New Campus Architect
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on January 30, 2017

Norfolk State University has a new architect on campus. Richard A. Law, AIA joined the Spartans November 10, 2016. Law graduated from Hampton University’s School of Architecture in 2005. Previously, he held a position with Dewberry, an engineering and architectural firm based in Fairfax, Virginia. Among his duties there included serving as a project manager, 3D illustrator and project architect and construction administrator. Additionally, Law coordinated design personnel for the implementation of design documents for projects as needed and ensuring compliance of plans to various regulatory codes. He also was responsible for collaborating with fellow designers to design and produce computer generated models for marketing and promotional materials. He has held other positions including a stints with Architecture Incorporated, MMM Design Group and McEntire Design.

At NSU, Law will work on the Brown Hall replacement project, renovations and upgrades in Harrison B.

Wilson Hall, revisions to the NSU Ticket Office, interiors of various residential halls and upgrades in the Marie V. McDemmond Center for Applied Research building and a host of other projects around campus. “Architects are responsible for creating a design concept that will meet the requirements of the end user. To accomplish this, architects collaborate and coordinate with engineers by ensuring all aspects of a building and its surrounding area meet the end user’s needs,” said Law. Additionally, the architect will provide advice on campus building standards, materials usage and consult on the consistency of campus branding. “I’ll be working with designers and contractors on decisions going forward, have a say in how buildings will look and function with the goal of being part of NSU’s progression towards the future,” Law said further outlining his duties here.

Law’s professional memberships include the State of Virginia Registered Architect, National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and the American Institute of Architects.
