C-SPAN Bringing its Interactive Bus to Cheyney University
|
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on February 10, 2017 C-SPAN’s award-winning, 45-foot highly interactive customized bus will visit Cheyney University Monday, February 13th, as part of C-SPAN’s 2017 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) tour. Cheyney, the nation's 1st HBCU, will appropriately be the very first stop on C-SPAN's HBCU tour from 10 am to noon in the Marcus Foster parking lot right by the University's Student Union. C-SPAN is reportedly excited to visit HBCU's because of the substantial role they have within America’s higher-education system. "We are honored that C-SPAN selected the nation's oldest HBCU to begin its multi-campus tour," said Dr. Robert M. Dixon, Cheyney's Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. "Students will learn about the branches of government, political campaigns, and other political topics through interactive technology." Students, professors, staff and the outside public are invited to step aboard the bus to learn about the public affairs network’s programs and resources, including its in-depth coverage of the U.S. Congress, White House, federal courts and the American political process. Through interactive exhibits, students and educators will also learn how to access and utilize C-SPAN’s comprehensive online educational resources and services, including C-SPAN.org. "Now in its 24th year on the road, the C-SPAN Bus partners with local cable providers to visit schools and community events across the country," says a C-SPAN spokesperson. "The Bus has a new look and features our C-SPAN app and brand new touch-screen tablets." As part of its C-SPAN "Voices from the Road" (#cspanvoices), C-SPAN representatives plan to gather visitor responses on Congress and the new administration in Washington, DC to share via social media. In the local area, C-SPAN programming is provided by Comcast as a commercial-free public service. All funding for C-SPAN operations, including Bus visits, is provided by local TV providers. A liberal arts university, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania hosts signature programs such as the Keystone Honors Academy, the Aquaculture Research and Education Laboratory, and the accredited Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management program. Recognized as the nation’s 1st HBCU, Cheyney University has been educating students since 1837. The University offers baccalaureate and graduate degree programs at two locations, Cheyney and Philadelphia, PA – Center City. For more information, please visit the website at www.cheyney.edu.
