Allen University to Host its 12th Annual Richard Allen / UNCF Awards Gala

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on February 10, 2017 When: Saturday, March 18, 2017 Times: 6:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. (Silent Auction Reception @ 6:00 PM / Gala @ 7:00 PM) Location: Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC 29201 Allen University will be hosting the 12th Annual Richard Allen Awards/ UNCF “A Mind is … “ Gala on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center from 6:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. The purpose of the Gala is to raise scholarship funds for deserving students to attend Allen University. This Gala will include a silent auction, dinner, great music, networking opportunities and dancing. The Richard Allen Award is named in honor of African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church founder and Allen University namesake, Richard Allen. Individual tickets for this fundraising event are $200 with tables starting at $2000. Sponsorships that include auction items are welcomed. The 2017 Richard Allen Awards Honorees are: David E. Rivers, DHL, Director - Public Information and Community Outreach Department of Library Science Informatics Associate Professor Latecia M. Abraham, DHA, MHA Public Information and Community Outreach Department of Library Science and Informatics Instructor Melinda Downing, U.S. Department of Energy Allen University has been a UNCF member institution since April 2005. Each year UNCF provides college scholarships for more than 60,000 young people from low and moderate income families. Since its founding in 1944, the UNCF has raised more than 3.6 billion dollars to help more than 400,000 students earn a college degree. The organization also helps to provide financial support for its various historically black college and university (HBCU) member institutions (www.uncf.org).
