Posted By: Will Moss on March 31, 2005 The Virginia Union University Family Is Proud Of Sarah Elizabeth Morris, Miss VUU and Now Miss CIAA 2005 Sarah Elizabeth Morris, Miss Virginia Union University 2004-2005, was crowned Miss CIAA 2005 on Saturday, March 5, 2005. Selected from a pool consisting of thirteen other contestants representing CIAA member schools, Sarah stated “I am so proud to be able to represent Virginia Union University. I am also proud that I have been given the opportunity to personify such a sound and marvelous athletic conference which promotes academic excellence as well as athletic excellence”. The applications submitted by each contestant weighed heavily in the selection process. The criteria included transcripts, a biography, extracurricular activities and an essay. The essay topic selected by the CIAA was “How has attending a CIAA school influenced you?” Sarah, who has stellar grades and is very active on campus, was very creative in writing her essay. She used the letters “CIAA” to explain four primary character traits that she has worked to further develop and perfect while attending VUU; a CIAA member school. The attributes mentioned in her essay were Charisma, Integrity, Astuteness and a (positive) Attitude. Sarah, a senior, who will be graduating in May, was completely surprised when she won. “I actually did not even hear my name called; all I heard was Virginia Union University! Honestly, I did not think that I was going to win despite the unwavering confidence of my fellow Unionites, because VUU is one of the smallest universities in the conference. I had campaigned in Louisa, VA (my hometown), on campus, and a few other places, but did not know if I had done enough. Apparently, I did!” Sarah is the daughter of the late Clyde W. Morris, Sr., Dale Morris-Bradshaw and Henry Bradshaw (step-father) and plans to attend medical school upon graduation in May.
