Ohio State football joining Texas Southern University for satellite camp in Houston

Posted By: Reginald Claremont on April 20, 2017 Ohio State football, which once spent little to no time recruiting the hotbed that is Houston, is suddenly making a push there. So it makes sense that the Buckeyes would like to get some boots on the ground for a camp sure to feature some of the best talent in that part of Texas. Ohio State's coaching staff will be guest coaches at the Texas Southern football camp on June 8. The Buckeyes will be joined there by the Arizona coaching staff. The NCAA has set stricter rules on when and where off-campus camps can be held, but this kind of mega camp -- multiple colleges working on a college campus -- is allowable. Texas Southern, an FCS program, is surely happy to have Ohio State attached to its camp. Ohio State gets to enhance its presence in Houston, a place the Buckeyes are clearly interested in during this recruiting cycle. The Buckeyes have offered 2018 five-star Houston cornerback Anthony Cook, who just visited for the spring game and has Ohio State in his new top 10. The Buckeyes have also offered 2018 Houston-area receivers Brennan Eagles and Al'vonte Woodard. Ohio State signed three of the top six prospects in Texas in last year's recruiting class: cornerback Jeffrey Okudah, linebacker Baron Browning and running back J.K. Dobbins. The Buckeyes have had plenty of success recruiting Texas since Urban Meyer arrived, but most of that success has been centered in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Houston is one of the few fertile recruiting grounds in the country in which Ohio State has yet to gain some solid footing, but Meyer is making his push now.
