Posted By: Hija Chang on April 24, 2017 Join us for CAU NOW-Lifting Every Voice, Saturday morning at 7am on WCLK as we highlight the Fifth Annual Atlanta Studies Symposium, a collaboration between the Clark Atlanta University Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and the James Weldon Johnson Institute at Emory University. A roundtable discussion will take place at 12noon on Wednesday, April 26 in the Exhibition Hall at the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library. Panelists will include Clark Atlanta University's Dr. Barbara Harris Combs, Samuel Livingston of Morehouse College, Calinda Lee of the Atlanta History Center, Deirdre Oakley and Dr. Maurice Hobson of Georgia State University and Charles Stephens of the Counter Narrative Project along with Dr. Kali-Ahset Amen of Emory University serving as our moderator. We were joined in the studio by Dr. Kali-Ahset Amen, Dr. Maurice Hobson and Dr. Barbara Harris Combs. The academicians spoke to their work and research undergirding community activists who work to change policy. They speak to Atlanta being a different geographical space that has remained a Black Mecca even though poverty also exists for our community. They juxtapose the leadership of the city with the neighborhoods that are in need of support. Additionally they compare and contrast Atlanta's West End with historically Black neighborhoods in Washington, DC and New York City that have been gentrified. How is Atlanta different? They embrace Atlanta's community leaders and activists and encourage them to use their research. This event is open to the public. More: http://wclk.com/post/cau-now-lifting-every...
