Congratulations To Virginia State University Alum TSoul For Becoming a Top 10 Contestant On NBC’s ‘The Voice’

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on May 05, 2017 FEATURED Content by E'Vonne Gipson Virginia State University graduate and singer Terry Pinkard also known as ‘TSoul’, auditioned for this year’s season of NBC’s The Voice after wanting to share his passion for music with the world. For his blind audition, he performed Al Green’s classic “Take Me to the River” turning the chairs of both country artist, Blake Shelton and rock star Adam Levine. TSoul chose Blake Shelton to be his coach, smart choice by him being that Shelton’s team has taken the title five times now. The artist said he chose Shelton as his coach because he’s a country boy from Virginia and those country roots are gonna always be instilled in me. In an article by Rappahannock Record, he talked about how excited he was to go back home to those country roots after joining Team Blake to visit his family, his parents Terry and Karen Pinkard and his alma mater Northumberland Country schools where he performed “Mary Had a Little Lamb” with seventh grader Channing Reynolds, signed autographs and took selfies with the students. He left them with an important message saying, “To get anywhere, you must have faith…and consistency,” he told the students. “If you have a passion, follow it, work at it every day and don’t give up.” He’s been singing for nearly two decades beginning at Shiloh Baptist Church, but he told NBC earlier this season that some of his most memorable moments singing was when he was a part of the Virginia State University Gospel Chorale. “That choir travels all over the world, so I was able to get the experience of a lifetime with them, but it also showed me the ins and outs of traveling on the road and having a band and a group of people,” he said. “The love that’s been coming in from Richmond has been amazing. I walk in the store and people walk by and say, ‘Aren’t you from the Voice?'” He may have country roots and may no be recognized nationally, but his voice connects with people all around the world as the singer gained nearly a million supporters singing covers of popular songs on YouTube before auditioning for the hit show. Some hit songs that he’s had the opportunity to perform and grace ‘The Voice’ stage include: “Knock on Wood” by Eddie Floyd, “These Arms of Mine” by Otis Redding and “Always on My Mind” by Willie Nelson. On Monday, May 1, aiming for that spot in the top 10, the singer gave an intimate performance of Grammy-nominated hit song “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith. TSoul is a beast.” He explained that he had never heard him sing like that! “You always get lost in the moment, but you just let your voice go,” Shelton said. “You didn’t hold anything back. And then you laid down on the stage of The Voice on national television.” TSoul doesn’t care who is watching, he’s going to continue to put his all in each performance and leave his heart, sweat, and SOUL on the stage, but to keep him on the show you have to VOTE!
