Edgar sets meet and facility 800-meter run record

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on May 08, 2017 The defending NAIA 800-meter run champion Marbeq Edgar (JR/Choiseul, St. Lucia) showed he is poised to repeat his title as he set a meet and facility record in the event Friday at University of Houston's Tom Tellez Invitational. Edgar ran 1:47.83 which beat his Wiley College record by nearly two seconds. His time topped a 17-man field – edging his closest competition by 0.5 seconds. Shevan Parks (FR/Jamaica) also ran an impressive time in the event at 1:49.33. The No. 3 Wildcats shattered another school record with their time of 3:09.35 in the 4 x 400-meter relay. The team of Kimorie Shearman (FR/St. Vincent), Moriba Morain (JR/Pleasance Park, Trinidad ), Edgar and Rajay Hamilton (JR/Jamaica) ran nearly three seconds better than the program's previous best of 3:12.19. Kendell Perouza (SR/Barataria, Trinidad) surpassed the NAIA 'B' Qualifying standard in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 54.17. Oraine Palmer (SO/Kingston, Jamaica) and Quinn-Lee Ralph (SR/Trinidad &Tobago) got their final tune ups in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes ahead of the NAIA Championship. Palmer ran 10.55 in the 100-meter dash and 21.19 in the 200-meter dash. Ralph finished in 10.52 and 21.24 in the 200-meter dash. Hamilton ran 47.47 in the 400-meter dash. Wiley College will turn its attention to the NAIA Championship – which is May 25-27 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
