Honors Bestowed during Alabama State University Business College's Banquet

Honors Bestowed during Alabama State University Business College
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on May 08, 2017

Alabama State University's College of Business Administration (COBA) held its annual awards banquet recently in the John Garrick Hardy Student Center ballroom and honored students, alumni and business leaders for a myriad of accomplishments.

One of the highlights of the event was a special tribute to Dr. Percy J. Vaughn who served as dean of the college for 35 years before his retirement in 2010. Vaughn was named Dean Emeritus of the college during ASU’s 116th Founders’ Day Convocation on Feb. 8, 2016.
The event was organized by members of the Dean’s Council, which is composed of the presidents of the college’s student organizations.
“The awards banquet is important in that it provides an opportunity for COBA students to be recognized for their accomplishments,” said council president, Chandra Williams. “It was also a night to celebrate and uplift the COBA professors and staff.”

COBA also recognized its distinguished alumni with the Silhouette of Service Award. Since its inception in 2011, the award has honored COBA alumni who are trailblazers not only in the boardroom, but also in the community.
This year’s Silhouette of Service Award recipients are:
• Trustee Brenda Brown Hunter is President and CEO of BBH Consulting, LLC, a company that provides world class service for local, national and international projects, programs and businesses. Prior to her entrepreneurial venture, she served as the Science Advisor in the Office of Defense Programs at the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). She currently serves as a member of the ASU Board of Trustees. Hunter can be summarized as a real person of compassion and deep desire to effect positive impacts on her community and its citizens.
• Dr. Linda G. Chambers is an entrepreneurial accounting professional with more than 25 years’ experience in auditing, accounting operations, management and consulting. She also is committed to academia with nine years of classroom teaching experience at the college level. She has worked in senior positions at Miles College, United Healthcare, Evergreen Inc., and the US Department of Treasury.

She also was a financial partner in Chambers Consulting Limited for over 11 years.
• Quincy P. Minor is President/COO of Information Transport Solutions, a technology solution integrator headquartered in Wetumpka, Ala. He is an accomplished technology leader with the strong ability to define, implement, and lead the execution of technical strategies that strengthen organizational performance. With over 15 years of experience, he stays current with technology, market, and economic trends with a focus on sustainability and continuous improvement.
COBA’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) presented an award to Charles Underwood, the founder of C&R Movers, LLC, a two-year old business that was started and has grown with the help of the SBDC. The center also honored the memory and legacy of Lorenza Patrick who led the SBDC for more than twenty years.
