Alcorn magazine wins Grand Award at the College of Public Relations Association of Mississippi Conference

The Division of Marketing and Communication at Alcorn State University were big winners at the 2017 College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM) Awards Ceremony in the senior division, which includes all of the state's public and private 4-year colleges and universities Tuesday, May 23 in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Alcorn, The University Magazine won the CPRAM Grand Award in the Print and Electronic Media Category. The magazine also won first place in the Special Publications Category. The “Be Brave. Go Further.” Brochure won first place in the Admissions and Recruitment Piece Category, and the “Alcorn Give 5 Campaign” won third place in the Multi-Media Presentation Category.

The Division of Marketing and Communication is committed to advancing the profile and reputation of Alcorn.

Clara Ross Stamps, the Division’s vice president and editor of Alcorn, said “We are a small, competitive team — Tanya Carr, Christopher Davis, Justus Reed and Stacey Springfield — dedicated to working hard and producing exceptional projects.”

Stamps said she was proud of the magazine’s storytelling, photography, design and strategic use of Alcorn's marketing materials. This year’s magazine includes a recruitment brochure that can be detached from the magazine and given directly to a prospective student.

Alcorn State University National Alumni Association Second Vice President Lakesha Batty ’99 is not surprised by the big win. “Alcornites love all things Alcorn, and this edition of the Alcorn Magazine does not disappoint. Congratulations,” Batty said.

“I can always count on relevant content with amazing photographs that not only keep us in the know about all the wonderful accomplishments of the University and Alcornites, but also tell a story that breathes the very essence that Alcorn is made of. On a personal note, in my capacity as an officer in the ASUNAA on both the local and national level, I have consulted with this office for numerous projects and their attention to detail and high standards are evident in every product.”

And others are raving about the latest edition, too. “I have just got a chance to peruse my copy of Alcorn, The University Magazine. As in the past, it is OUTSTANDING! Congratulations to you and your team,” Alumnus Charles Beckwith ’67 said.

Percy O. Norwood Jr. ’68, president of the Montgomery Carroll-Grenada County Alumni Chapter, said, “This is the absolute best edition of the Alcorn magazine. Just when I think it can’t get any better, you all take great to another level.”
“It is indeed an honor that the Division continues to receive both state and national recognition for the quality of its creative work,” Stamps said. “Winning the highest award, the Grand Award, proves that a small team with limited resources can produce great work.”

While Stamps and her team are appreciative of the recognition, they are more passionate about sharing stories about the University that connect generations of Alcornites, honor traditions and celebrate the history and legacy of Alcorn.

The Division enjoys boasting about Alcorn’s awesome students, the scholarship of its faculty and talented employees and the outstanding contributions of alumni. To share your news with the Division, click here.
