Posted By: How May I Help You NC on June 05, 2017 Position Overview: The Senior Marketing and Communications Director leads the global marketing and communications efforts for Room to Read and heads 4 sub-teams: 1) Grants & Publications, 2) Stakeholder Engagement, 3) Campaign, Digital & Mass Communications, and 4) PR & Corporate Communications. This position is responsible for an integrated marketing and communications plan that ensures that the organization can translate its mission and associated corporate brand into specific activations that communicate with and engage the general public, prospects and donors, in an inspirational and effective way. In addition, the Senior Director should ensure that the Marketing & Communications team can provide the infrastructure to continue to build our reputation and brand in the international marketplace and, internally, to motivate, inform, and connect with our staff. This involves creating, managing and leveraging multiple communication channels to increase donations and engagement and includes the following: executive, thought leadership and conference platforms to drive leadership positioning; marketing and printed materials for awareness building, solicitation and stewardship; public relations and advertising; website, blog and online communications; social media marketing; promotional marketing- and cause-marketing partnerships; internal newsletter and corporate policies. The Senior Marketing & Communications Director is ultimately responsible for helping to increase the visibility and value of the Room to Read brand amongst a growing audience and to increase conversions across multiple target audiences, thereby growing contributions to the organization. The Senior Marketing & Communications Director will also support internal communication, brand and team building for the worldwide communications staff functions in the program countries where Room to Read operates and across Europe, Australia and Asia where it has fundraising offices. This includes ensuring there is consistent messaging and brand usage across the company by overseeing the ongoing maintenance and dissemination of Room to Read’s branding guide and key messaging. This also includes consulting on crisis messaging. The position will report directly to the Chief Development and Communications Officer and manages a team of 13 people. Duties & Responsibilities: Strategy, Leadership and Management (20%): Position and successfully develop Room to Read as a trusted global brand for international education by successfully creating and implementing marketing and communications plan across global markets. Serve as creative director for the organization’s major marketing and fundraising campaigns by developing a thorough understanding of target audiences and partnering with fundraisers to produce activations that will motivate and inspire. Work with Marketing & Communications sub-teams to translate campaigns across major marketing and communications channels. Design and implement the associated annual marketing and communications plans (including: external relations/PR, print collateral, web/social media, and email communications). Ensure consistent communication of the organization's image and position, both within the organization and externally to all constituencies. Manage a staff of 13 under four sub-teams: Grants & Publications, Campaign, Digital & Mass Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, and PR & Corporate Communications. Content Development and Distribution (10%): Manage our content development and distribution strategy ensuring that relevant content is created and distributed to the appropriate teams in a high-quality and timely way. This includes ensuring efficiency across the content development and distribution systems – from field level through to offline and online channels. PR, Advertising & External Relations (15%): Provide support and management to the Associate Director, PR & Corporate Communications, based in New York who acts as the key driver for PR, Advertising and Corporate Communications strategies. Counsel on PR strategy and execution, leveraging pro-bono relationships with Ketchum, their global affiliates and other pro-bono partners. Provide strategic counseling on pitching, story concepts and leadership positioning for PR and events. Work with PR & Corporate Communications as well as Campaign, Digital & Mass Communications sub-teams to ensure global advertising strategy – by engaging pro bono or paid advertising agencies, or creating in-house. Oversee distribution of advertising by soliciting media partnerships to secure PSA space and/or digital advertising partnerships to expand the Room to Read name to new audiences through online and offline channels and across multiple media platforms. Ensure effective messaging and channels to advertise and market stakeholder experiences such as site visits, treks, webinars and other stakeholder engagement opportunities. Marketing Materials & Publications (10%): Oversee the development and production of all printed materials including grant solicitation and stewardship materials as well as publications like the Annual Report, the Global Impact Report and other print materials. Ensure strategies to integrate offline printed media with other digital and mass communications channels in order to reach larger audiences in the most impactful ways. Website & Online Communications (10%): Develop and expand the role of the website and email communications as effective marketing tools to help bring in new supporters to Room to Read and increase online donations. Provide guidance and overall leadership for email and donor communication pieces including eNewsletters, marketing and fundraising emails. Provide counsel for solicitation email templates and content to ensure they are on-brand. Work with Campaign, Digital & Mass Communications sub-team to evaluate engagement metrics and determine opportunities to increase conversions through website and other online tools. Social Media (5%): Oversee online social media marketing strategy (including creating, posting and distributing content via social media as needed). Provide guidance and decision-making for new social media platforms into which Room to Read should expand. New Business & Corporate Marketing (15%): Identify, assess and evaluate brand building corporate partnership opportunities with sponsors, particularly those requesting cause-marketing or promotional partnerships. Pro-actively solicit partnerships with companies that would be advantageous to the brand and effectively reach new audiences and supporters. Work closely with the Corporate and Foundation relationship managers to leverage existing or new corporate donor relationships for co-branded marketing campaigns. Internal Communications (5%): Help share Room to Read’s overall brand and prepare staff to be able to communicate a consistent brand image by providing training to Room to Read staff and volunteers on communications strategies, key messages and use of materials. Create marketing processes, infrastructure and foundation to support growth and expansion of communication teams at global office and worldwide. Provide guidance as needed for sensitive internal communications. Program & Other Global Office Support (10%): Manage capacity building of communications officers in Asia and Africa including oversight of and enhancement of marketing materials as well as in-country PR & Advertising.
