Oakwood University Welcomes New Leader of Advancement & Development
|
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on July 20, 2017 Cheri Fisher Wilson, MA, CFRE, '82, has returned to her alma mater as Executive Director of Advancement & Development. Her guiding principle in raising funds is to fulfill student needs and honor donor wishes. During a welcome luncheon yesterday, President Leslie Pollard said, "We are looking forward to supporting Cheri's leadership of the Advancement & Development Division." Cheri has most recently served the United Negro College Fund as the area development director for Alabama and Mississippi. She has a wealth of experience in leading annual fundraising efforts, and fostering community engagement and collaborative partnerships by working with multiple diverse sectors to increase the resources and opportunities of the institution. Cheri earned a certificate in fund raising management (CFRM) from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis, and the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential. After completing a B.A. degree in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education at Oakwood College, and an M.A. degree in Special Education at La Sierra University, Cheri worked in education as an elementary general education classroom teacher, and later as a special education resource specialist. When she and her family moved to Huntsville, Cheri served Oakwood University for eight years as the director of development, and a short stint as director of adult and continuing education. More information on the fundraising activities of the Division of Advancement & Development will be shared in the coming weeks.
