Posted By: How May I Help You NC on August 21, 2017 ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING: The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department (CSSE) within the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA invites applications for one or more full-time, academic year, tenure-track Computer Science and Software Engineering faculty positions, at a rank and salary commensurate with the applicant's background and experience. The anticipated start date is September 13, 2018, or possibly January 8, 2019. Duties include teaching undergraduate and master's level courses, supporting and expanding curricular development in Computer Science and Software Engineering, pursuing research in one's area of expertise, and providing service to the department, the university, and the community. Strategic priorities of the department for these positions include but are not limited to: Programming Languages AI, Machine Learning, Data Science Theory Operating Systems Robotics An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate was completed prior to the start of the appointment. Highly qualified candidates from other areas may also be considered. Candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply. Cal Poly emphasizes Learn by Doing, which involves extensive lab work and projects in support of theoretical knowledge. The CSSE department has recently established several unique programs, such as an ABET-accredited undergraduate major in Software Engineering, a Cybersecurity initiative, and Cross-disciplinary Studies Minors in Computing for the Interactive Arts and Data Science in collaboration with the Arts and Statistics departments, respectively. The successful candidates will have an opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing these strategic initiatives. Cal Poly's Computer Science and Software Engineering Department offers Bachelor's Degrees in Computer Science and Software Engineering, and Master's Degrees in Computer Science. Also, the Computer Science and the Electrical Engineering departments jointly offer a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering.
