Powering Your Future: How to Amplify Your Professional Career Potential

As a leader in your field, there are several steps you can take to ensure that you are always on top of your game. These steps include the following vital components: Stay Abreast of Trends Always be in the know as to new and upcoming trends. You can do this by reading business magazines and articles, reviewing the newspapers every single day, and talking with others who work in your field. By doing this, you will be well prepared to make changes and adjustments before the competition and remain in the lead as far as sales, service, and productivity. For example, an engineer who designs cars would have to be aware of the changes in the auto industry, with the advent of driverless cars looming on the horizon. Not staying up-to-date on these trends would be the kiss of death for a car company that was not up to speed on this futuristic development. Make Education a Life-Long Process Keep on learning. Take every opportunity to attend classes, seminars, conferences, and meetings in your particular career area. Read constantly and practice management skills on the job daily. Some fields such as in computers, engineering programs, nursing, and teaching change constantly, so it is important to be well educated and up-to-date on advances and improvements that may have taken place. Network Engage with like-minded individuals who want to better themselves. The quote "you are who your friends are" is especially true in business. Align yourself with individuals who have skills that you would like to acquire, and learn from them at every opportunity. Make a point to spend time with business people who are just a step ahead of you, so that they challenge you to improve yourself and pull up to their level of proficiency and competence. Choose a Mentor Select an individual who has all the attributes you would like to have. This person can be someone you know, a person in history, or a deceased person who was very successful in their particular field. Study this person and their daily habits, work ethic, and final products. For example, if you are a female writer and film buff, you may choose Nora Ephron as your mentor, as she was highly skilled in both writing and directing movies. You would make a point of reading her biography, watching her films, and studying her techniques so you can truly understand how she become to be so well known and successful. If you make these four steps a top priority in your career growth, you are sure to become a highly successful individual in your field. Maintaining a strong and focused work life is a daily challenge, but by integrating these principles into your schedule, you will be well on your way to becoming a force to be reckoned with.
