HBCU Alumni Podiatrists Help Teach Health Providers in Nigeria

Posted By: Reginald Claremont on September 06, 2017 US Podiatrists, Emergency Room physician and Certified Nurse Anesthetist participated as instructors in the 4th Annual Podiatry Initiative of Nigeria in Lagos, Nigeria. This five day workshop and training program was a collaboration of the World Diabetes Foundation, The Podiatry Institute, and Rainbow Specialist Medical Center to train Nigerian medical professionals on diabetic foot care and amputation prevention. During this conference, strides were made to establish Podiatric Medicine/Surgery as a much needed medical specialty in Nigeria in sight of the alarming rates of complications associated with diabetic foot ulcers. Listed from left to right in the photo (Dr. David Isiavwe PhD, Dr. Kevin Adeleke MD, Dr. James Fullwood DPM, Dr. Rahn Ravenell DPM, Dr. Afokogbene Isiavwe FACE, Freeborn Ukpede CRNA, Dr. William Harris IV DPM, Dr. Babajide Ogulana DPM, and Dr. Abiola Oki DPM.). Dr. Kevin Adeleke is an Emergency Room Physician at Queens hospital and is a graduate of Morgan State University, Dr. William Harris IV is the president of the South Carolina Podiatric Medical Association and is a Johnson C. Smith University graduate along with Dr. James Fullwood who is the chief of staff at Sebasticook Valley Health and Vice president of the Maine Podiatric Medical Association also a JCSU graduate and member of Phi Beta Sigma incorporated, Dr. Rhan Ravenell is a graduate of Florida A&M University and board member of the South Carolina Podiatric Medical board and Trustee member of the Podiatry Institute of America lastly a member of Alpha phi Alpha incorporated, Dr. Abiola Oki is a graduate of Howard University and resident podiatrist in Miami Florida with a focus in limb salvage and foot and ankle reconstruction who has traveled to many countries on medical missions.
