Alcorn State University sets new attendance record for 2017 Fall High School Day

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 19, 2017 Students from around the country attended Alcorn State University’s 2017 Fall High School and Community College Transfer Day in droves. With over 5,230 students in attendance, this year’s High School Day was the largest in school’s history. Last year, 3,700 registered and attended the program. The Office of Admissions and Recruiting hosted the annual event Saturday, Sept. 5 in the Davey L. Whitney HYPER Complex. Entertainment was a key component of programming with the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band drum line, The T.R.E.N.D. Modeling Squad, sorority and fraternity stroll offs. Attendees also had an opportunity to participate in campus tours, interact with representatives from admissions and residence life and learn more about potential majors from various academic departments. Vice President for Student Affairs Emanuel Barnes thanked the many people who helped make the day a success. “This record turnout would not be possible without the participation of the many school districts, high schools, advisors, parents and most importantly, the students,” said Barnes. “We thank them and are pleased and motivated to see that Alcorn continues to be a school of choice where more and more students are interested and excited about continuing their education.” Student Ambassador, Austin Pope, was pleasantly surprised at Saturday’s turnout of future Alcornites on campus. “This was my first time participating in this event,” said Pope. “I can truly say that I am grateful for the experience and surprised by the outcome. With such an influx of prospective students coming to high school day, a bright future is ahead for Alcorn.” Student Ambassadors advisor, Jerri Jackson, enjoyed welcoming the students onto campus. She thanks adjacent schools and their advisors for encouraging the students to participate. Jackson stated, “I am truly happy with the turnout for high school day. Our main goal today was to show the students all the wonderful opportunities and experiences Alcorn has to offer.” -ALCORN- Alcorn State University is a premier comprehensive land-grant university that develops diverse students into globally competitive leaders, and applies scientific research through collaborative partnerships that benefit the surrounding communities, state, nation, and world.
