DSU SIGNS AGREEMENTS WITH CHINA’S BEIHUA UNIVERSITY

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on September 19, 2017 Delaware State University has finalized two new agreements with Beihua University of Jilin, China, which will open the door for the establishing of a joint graduate physics program and other opportunities for study abroad experiences. DSU President Harry L. Williams signed the agreement along with Dr. Xiang Deming, Beihua vice president of research at the end of a Sept. 12 meeting at DSU. Dr. Deming made the trip along with Professor Lv Yongzhen. Provost Tony Allen, Associate Provost Brad Skelcher, Vice Provost Saundra DeLauder, Interim Dean Charlie Wilson (College of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology), International Affairs Associate Vice President Fengshan Liu, and Dr. Mukti Rana, chair of the Department of Physics and Pre-Engineering, also participated in the meeting. The first five-year agreement authorizes the development of a 3+2 education program, in which a Beihua student will be able to complete three years of study at their home institution. He or she will then travel to the U.S. and enroll in DSU to begin with one semester of English Language courses. Upon successfully completion of the English Language courses, DSU will then fully admit the student into the DSU Physics Master Degree Program. Upon successfully completing the first year at DSU, the student will receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Beihua University. Upon successfully completing the graduate studies in Physics, DSU will award the student a Master of Science Degree in Physics. The agreement permits the enrollment of as many as 20 Beihua students per academic year. The second five-year agreement allows for the exchange of students from both institutions. DSU shall accept four students from Beihua’s University of Science Technology per academic year, while Beihua University will accept up to 10 DSU students for one month in the summer. The Beihua students will be permitted to enroll in any courses at DSU for which they are linguistically and academic qualified. The courses will be taught in English. At Beihua, DSU students will learn Chinese culture and be engaged in academic program. Beihua University will provide Del State student with any needed language support. This agreement waives tuition and fees for students from both institution, but they will be require to cover the cost of room and board. PHOTO CUTLINE (Seated l-r) DSU President Harry L.
