Savannah State University student headed to tech innovation summit

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on October 12, 2017 The annual HBCU Innovation Summit will be held October 25-28 in Silicon Valley area SAVANNAH – Gabriel Jean-Louis, a third-year computer science technology major from Hiram Ga., will represent Savannah State University (SSU) at the annual HBCU Innovation Summit, hosted by UNCF, in the San Francisco Bay area and Silicon Valley October 25-28. During this summit, students and faculty members representing more than 30 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) will visit more than dozen tech corporations. Jean-Louis is interested in software development and wants to create a new operating system that allows for more user-directed customization. Scholars were competitively selected based on GPAs, personal statements, internships, computer science skills, demonstrated leadership and their willingness to serve as change agents on their respective campuses. Summit sponsors include: Google, Alaskan Airlines, Adobe, eBay, NetApp, Salesforce, Workday, Twitter, Uber and many more. Nearly a third of 2014 and 2015 participants are now interning or working full time at technology companies. More information on this summit can be found at www.hbcuinnovation.org. Established in 1890, Savannah State University is the oldest public historically black college or university in Georgia and the oldest institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah. The university’s 4,900 students select majors from 30 undergraduate and six graduate programs in three colleges — Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Business Administration and Sciences and Technology — and the School of Teacher Education.
