A Ray of Hope: 19 Year Old David Hill recognized at Executive Leadership Council as Student Leader Nominee

A Ray of Hope: 19 Year Old David Hill recognized at Executive Leadership Council as Student Leader Nominee
Posted By: Tech Watch on November 13, 2017

In 1998, the year David Hill was born, Franklin Raines became the first African-American CEO of a fortune 500 company. Today, in 2017 with the retirement of Ken Chenault, CEO of American Express, there will be only 3 African-American CEO’s of fortune 500 companies.

Although progress has been slow for diversifying executive leadership in fortune 500 companies; firms like Cisco Systems, Corning Incorporated (where HBCU Morgan State University graduate Lawrence McRae serves as Vice Chairman) and United Technologies have all invested corporate resources to cultivate top talent like David Hill. His first corporate job was at Corning Incorporated software and modeling group at the age of 16 years old.

During the annual convention of the Executive Leadership Council held on October 26, 2017 at The Gaylord National Harbor Hotel near Washington, DC, industry executives from James Lowry, Senior Advisor at the Boston Consulting Group; Carla Harris- Vice Chairman at Morgan Stanley and Bernard Tyson- Chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente were honored for their outstanding industry achievements and contributions to the community. Shari Slate, Vice President, Chief Inclusion and Collaboration Officer at Cisco Systems also announced that their Worldwide Engineering Intern David Hill, Jr was competitively selected by BEYA as nominee of the 2018 top undergraduate engineering student leaders in the world.

At an early age, David went on to enter Howard University School of Engineering instead of Georgia Tech and University of Virginia. He was featured in various news articles including ESPN’s Undefeated Magazine. David has advanced the field of computer science and engineering through his undergraduate research on Big Data Provenance that was published and presented in Silicon Valley during the International Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) this year under the leadership of professor Dr.

Gedare Bloom. In addition, David is currently serving as the Lead Product Architect, UI/UX Designer for his senior software engineering project with renowned computer scientist Dr. Legand Burge at Howard University. “Our goal is to develop a global proprietary software based platform that leverages the sentient dynamics of large cities and rural areas by using artificial intelligence, neural networks  and sensors to enhance integrated market awareness across finance, entertainment, health and cybersecurity platforms’, said Hill.

David has also been acknowledged in the past by industry executives at United Technologies- Otis Elevator Vice President Brad Sellick during David’s software engineering contributions in IoT enabled platforms for it’s digitalization strategy at the North American facility.

He believes in helping to give back to society by utilizing his talents to become a tech mentor volunteer at the growing IN3 tech hub led by Mr. Aaron Saunders in order to support technology education and innovation for underrepresented youth in the Greater Washington DC area. https://www.in3dc.com/

According to David Hill, “learning by strategic self driven discovery has a way of accelerating the team innovation development process. It’s what I learned in Montessori school. Like my favorite sports figure Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors-- its not where you came from, but where you are going; through focus, practice, passion, communication and teamwork. While interning at Cisco Systems, I was able to balance my love for technical software engineering with worldwide strategic business development and sales in order to improve shareholder value”.
