|
Posted By: Hannah Whittenly on December 04, 2017 You’ve dreamt of going to a good college in the United States for a while now, right? A good education will lead to a good career. If English isn’t your first language and you’re not the most fluent person in it, however, you have an obstacle in your way before you can start on that path. That obstacle is the TOEFL Exam. For many universities, it is the key to getting in. It proves that you’re fluent enough both verbally and in the written form to handle the rigors of college life. To help you get ready for this big exam, follow the following tips: Know the Format of the TestOne of the ways of getting ready for the TOEFL exam is understanding the format of the test. One can familiarize with the format by checking the official TOEFL website. Here you will get to learn various formats such as the paper based and internet based format. After reviewing the two formats, you will be able to choose the format that suits you best. Besides the format, you will also get to view some of the questions mostly tested and the correct answers to such questions. The understanding of the format and the answers to the questions will significantly help you in the preparation. Focus on the Primary Reason for the TestThe TOEFL exam has various sections such as the reading, listening, speaking as well as writing section. While you are preparing for this exam, you need to have a primary goal on why you need to pass the exam. For instance, your primary goal may be to get a job where you will mainly talk on the phone. With this in mind while preparing for the exams, you need to polish the speaking and the listening parts to perform excellently. Get SupportWhile preparing for the TOEFL exam, you don’t need to do it on your own. You can get support from the teachers, peers as well as some online programs. There are plenty of resources and institutions, like the Interactive College Of Technology, that can help you polish up your English skills. Such programs are designed to help student polish their vocabulary, listening, reading, grammatical skills among other English skills. An ESL program integrates the class and group discussions, which will aid you in boosting your English skills. Allocate Some Minutes to Read Each DayWhile preparing for the TOEFL exam which gauges your English skills, you’ll need to set aside reading time. You can set aside 30 minutes each day to read various news stories, magazines or other such material.. After reading, the stories ask yourself some questions. Answering the questions and reading will help you to improve your speaking and reading skills. Keep a journal so that you can write down the new words that you learn and make it a point to use them throughout the day. This way, your vocabulary will grow. If you adequately prepare for the TOEFL exam, you will get good grades. Besides, you will have excellent English skills. Try out the tips above, and you should get good results!
