BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENTS AT DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY

Delaware State University will celebrate Black History Month in February with the following events on campus that are free and open to the public:

• Feb. 1, Thursday, 7 p.m. -- The Citywide Black History Month Music Kickoff, to be held in the Education & Humanities (EH) Theatre on campus, will feature performances by the DSU Concert Choir, the DSU Gospel Choir, the Calvary Baptist Mass Choir, Bishop Charles Shorts and Spirit & Truth, as well as the DSU Spoken Word Artists United. This event is sponsored by the Citywide Black History Month Committee, which is comprised of the Delaware State News, DSU, the Biggs Museum, Don-Del Productions and the Inner City Cultural League.

• Feb. 5, Monday, 6:30 p.m. – An exclusive advance screening of “Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G., an NBC special on the murders of the hip hop legends, will be shown in the EH Theatre.

• Feb. 8, Thursday, 11 a.m. – DSU’s annual Founders’ Day Program, featuring a screening of documentary Delaware State University – A Legacy of Opportunity, will be shown in the MLK Jr. Student Center second floor parlors.

• Feb. 8, Thursday, 6:30 p.m. – A second screening of documentary Delaware State University – A Legacy of Opportunity will be shown in the MLK Jr. Student Center second floor parlors.

• Feb. 15, Thursday, 7 p.m.



– A screening of the PBS documentary Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities, will be shown in the MLK Jr. Student Center second floor parlors.

• Feb. 20, Tuesday, 6 p.m. – An Evening with Dr. Sylvia Trent-Adams, U.S. Deputy Surgeon General. Del. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kara Odem-Walker, will moderate the event. Dr Trent-Adams will share her thoughts on “The Politics of African American Health.” This event will be held in the EH Theatre.

• Feb. 21, Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. – DSU’s Early College High School will hold its 3rd annual Carter G. Woodson Awards, in which students select black history heroes – known and unknown – to celebrate and honor; to be held in the EH Theatre.

• Feb. 26, Monday, 7 p.m. – Broadway actors and couple Donald Webber, Jr., (Hamilton) and Rebecca Covington Webber (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) will share their career experiences and wisdom in a guest speaker event; to be held in the EH Theatre.

• Feb. 27, Tuesday, 7 p.m. – “An Evening with the Olympians” will feature Olympic track and bobsledding star Lauren Williams, along with Antonio M. Boyle, DSU vice president of Strategic Enrollment, a member of the 1988 Barbados Olympic Swim Team; and Candy Young, DSU director of the Office of Title IX, a member of the U.S. Olympic Track Team. The Olympians will talk about their careers during a guest speaker event in the EH Theatre.
