Campus Tours 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Manley College Center, Upper Concourse Stretch your legs and take pleasure in a walking tour through campus to learn more about your student’s home away from home. Lunch 11:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. Manley College Center, Alma Upshaw Dining Hall Everyone is invited to an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. Family members $7.00. Students use their meal plan. Museum of Fine Art Tour Exhibit: Deborah Roberts: The Evolution of Mimi 12 - 1 p.m. The Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center, First Floor Each year, Spelman College extends a warm welcome to the families of our students and invites them to experience all that Spelman offers. Join us for a guided tour of "Deborah Roberts: The Evolution of Mimi" led by our student Museum Ambassadors. President’s Breakfast 9:30 a.m. Manley College Center, Alma Upshaw Dining Hall *TICKETED EVENT* President Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., will give an academic and financial overview of the college. Parents and Family Association Meeting 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center Auditorium Families are invited to gather with other members of the association and learn how to get more involved. Speaker Series 12:30 - 2 p.m. The Camille Olivia Cosby Academic Center Family Weekend speaker series presents information on a variety of topics such as Revised Admissions and Enrollment Policy, Campus Career Resources That Lead to Student Success, Upper Classmen Housing Process. Arts Innovation Lab Open House 2 - 5 p.m. John D. Rockefeller Fine Arts Building Room 208 & 139 Student and faculty projects will be displayed, and we have small take-aways for the Spelman community that show off some of the capabilities of our makerspace tools. Upstairs, enjoy an interactive digital installation, and downstairs, mingle and catch up on what our outstanding students and faculty are working on in the lab. Jaguar Jam BBQ 2 - 5 p.m. Manley College Center, Upper Concourse *TICKETED EVENT* Embrace the spirit of the “Jaguar” at this Spelman College Jam session. Enjoy a traditional barbecue, music and fellowship! BLK 3000 Fine Arts Dramatic Performance 7:30 p.m. John D. Rockefeller Fine Arts Building Baldwin Burroughs Auditorium *TICKETED EVENT* BLK 3000 is a devised piece that will use the form of clown, long form improvisation and movement to tell the story of what blk life/blk thought/blk body/blk space will look like in the year 3000. With foundational readings from Baraka-Teer-Lorde-Sanchez-Morrison-Sun Ra-Lauryn Hill- Badu and more, students will explore the afrofuturistic themes of blk life in the early 1900s, the 60s, and now in order to craft the future to come. WORKSHOPS Upper Classmen Housing Process Changes You Need to Know Facilitator: Alison Cummings, Director of Housing and Residential Life 12:30 - 1 p.m. & 1 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. The Camille Olivia Cosby Academic Center, Room 103 There have been some significant changes to the housing process for upper classmen. The housing department will review the changes and answer your questions. Navigating Campus Career Center Resources that Lead to Student Success Facilitator: Harold Bell, Director of Career Planning and Development 12:30 - 1 p.m. & 1 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. The Camille Olivia Cosby Academic Center, Room 104 Spelman students are exposed to a multitude of both employment and graduate/professional school opportunities. Subsequently, it is not uncommon for them to not only develop a number of diverse interests, but an equal number of unique questions as to how to clarify, pursue, and determine which career path they should take. This session will share with parents the resources available on campus to assist their student in charting a career path from matriculation to graduation. Special emphasis will be placed upon the Office of Career Planning and Development, the Health Careers Program, the Dual Degree Engineering Program, and the Sister2Sister Mentoring Program. Revised Admissions & Enrollment Policy Facilitator: Dr. Fran’Cee Brown-McClure, Dean of Students 1:30 - 2 p.m. The Camille Olivia Cosby Academic Center Auditorium The College has recently revised its admissions and enrollment policy to include transgender students. This session will provide information about the implementation of the policy and educational information. Day Three: Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 Worship Service Guest Speaker: Pastor Charles Oatis, Sr., New Mt. Esther Baptist Church 11 a.m. Sisters Chapel Culminate your weekend by joining us for a nondenominational service in historic Sisters Chapel. Sunday Brunch 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Manley College Center, Alma Upshaw Dining Hall Everyone is invited to an all you can eat brunch buffet. Family members may purchase tickets at the door for $7.00 each.
