Miss Alabama State University
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on April 17, 2018 Wetumpka resident Arianna Elizabeth Thompson will reign as Miss ASU 2018-2019 The royal line of succession is in place and a new Miss Alabama State University and her court were chosen at a grand pageant last Friday, which was held at the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Arianna Elizabeth Thompson, a 21 year-old ASU student and graphic design major from Wetumpka, Ala. is the new Miss ASU 2018-2019. Also selected were members of Miss ASU's court, which included First Attendant, Natasha Annette Marshall, (a 20 year-old rehabilitation services major from Chicago, Ill.) and Second Attendant, Chanelle Ariel Bryant (a 21 year-old dance major from Atlanta, Ga.). Thompson said she has desired to become Miss ASU since she was a senior attending Wetumpka High School, and had observed the pageantry surrounding the position from afar. When asked what she wishes to accomplish as Miss ASU, Thompson said: "I actually want to make a difference on this campus." "It's not about 'you' as a person, it's all about the students and the community," she added. ASU's Dr. Davida Haywood (vice president for Student Affairs) explained the new process of being selected as Miss ASU as being divided in to two parts, which includes a student election/voting process from running in and doing well in a campus-wide student election (that was held on April 9-10), and being judged and scoring well in all aspects of the Miss ASU Pageant (held April 13, at the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome), which includes such areas as talent, physical fitness and attire. "We appreciate all of the students who ran for Miss Alabama State University; all of whom are intelligent, beautiful, talented and worthy of the title in many respects; and congratulate Miss Thompson as our new Miss ASU, and her court," Haywood said. ABOUT MISS ASU Thompson, the new Miss ASU, is very involved in campus activities and is an Alabama State University cheerleader. She also is a member of such campus groups as Student Orientation Services, The Student Art Organization and she mentors high school youth at Brantwood Children's Home. Thompson is a 2015 graduate of Wetumpka High School and is the daughter of Eric and Phaidra Thompson. MISS ASU'S FIRST ATTENDANT Marshall, First Attendant to Miss ASU, is a member of the University's Rehabilitation Services Club, Epsilon Tau Sigma's Allied Health Honor Society and Circle K International Service Organization. She frequently volunteers with one of her hometown organizations, Chicago Cares, which allows her to do charitable service work all over the city of Chicago. She is also a fine vocalist, and is the daughter of James Marshall, Jr. and Carla Harris. SECOND ATTENDANT TO MISS ASU Bryant, Second Attendant to Miss ASU, is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Beta Eta Chapter); Beta Phi Alpha Dance Honor Society, ASU's ASPIRE Mentoring Program, and is a Student Government Association senator. She does community service and outreach through ASU's ASPIRE Mentoring Program, and Hosea Feed the Hungry. She is the daughter of Jeff Bryant and Camille DeBoulet. The newly selected Miss ASU (Thompson) said the ultimate goal in her new position is to help students. "I would like to implement a foundation to help current students financially that would allow them to receive funds that would help them complete their academic school year," Thompson said. The formal Miss ASU Coronation Ceremony will take place on campus in the Fall. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
