Alabama State University to Host a Variety of Summer Camps starting June 2-July 27

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on May 01, 2018 From June 2 - July 27, ASU hosts both the traditional summer camp and the very unique and special camp Summer camp season is looming just ahead of us, and now is a great time to do a preview news story so that your consumers are educated on what choices they and their kids have for summer 2018. Alabama State University offers your news outlet and the parents and kids of the River Region a great and myriad-mix of diverse, fun, educational, and interesting summer camps that will be held at ASU this summer from June 2 - July 27, for area students, kids, and in one instance, adults. Some fall under the definition of a traditional summer camp and there are others that go beyond the pale of the ordinary and mundane. ASU’s 2018 summer camp schedule offers something for everyone. Below is a listing of each ASU summer camp with a synopsis description: (SKYCAP) Summer Kids/Youth College Adventure Program – Session 1; June 4- 22 Session 2 July 9-27 A variety of academic and self-enrichment programs are offered at various locations, times and costs. Designed for first through 12th-graders, courses are offered in reading/phonics, writing, English, social studies, mathematics, sciences, study skills, algebra, geometry, computers, swimming and more. Cost -- Full Day: $425 per child, per session, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; Half Day: $300 per child, per session, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. , Monday through Friday. Summer Band Camp – June 10-16 Designed for eighth through 12th-grade students, the camp provides clinics and exciting activities for bands, flag corps, twirlers, drum majors, majorettes and directors. The cost is $375 for the week along with $75 non-refundable deposit. which is required for all campers. Hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call 334-229-4289. ASPIRE Head-Start Camp – June 18 -July 19 Cost is $200 per child. This camp focuses on study skills, organization skills and social skills for students in grades nine through 12. The camp aims to help students get a head start for the 2018-2019 school year. Hours: 8 am- Noon. Monday through Thursday. No cash or checks. Each camp will take place at the Leila Barlow Theatre, located at the corner of North University Drive and South Jackson Street. (Theatre Artist Performance School) – June 10 - June 23 This camp is designed for children ages six to 12. It is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost is $325 per child and includes lunch, snacks and a T-shirt. Participants also will receive a DVD of the camp’s final production, which is held on the last day of the camp (June 23 at 1 p.m.) at the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome. TTI (Technical Theatre Initiative) – June 18 - 30 The camp is designed to give participants ages 15 to 18 firsthand experience with the basics of costumes, lights, set design, entertainment law, sound videography, photography, editing, stage management and life skills. This also includes dressing for success, speech and diction, as well as interview, ethics and interpersonal communication skills. The camp is five hours daily, Monday through Friday. Cost is $225. Camp 3T (Teaching Through Theatre) – June 24- 30 The residential camp, created for teenagers 13-18, offers classes in acting, singing, dancing and oral interpretation. The cost for the camp is $375 per child, which will cover room and board in an ASU dormitory, a snack, three meals, a t-shirt and a DVD of the camp’s final performance, which is held on the last day. Camp GIFTED- Giving Individual Freedom to Express Diversity. July 9-13 ,2018 This camp is for ages 13- 21 and is for children with special needs. The registration cost for the camp is $260. ARPAC (Adult Repertory Performing Arts Camp) – July 6-8 This is a three-day residential workshop that includes training in television, film and stage for ages 19 and up. The cost is $325 per participant, which includes room and board in an ASU dormitory, a headshot, resume, t-shirt and DVD of the final production, which takes place on the last day. Summer Cheer Camp (junior high and high school squads) - June 2 - 3 The Alabama State University Cheerleaders will be hosting their Annual “Bama State Summer Cheer Camp.” This exciting event will be held on campus, June 2 - 3, at Lockhart Gymnasium, beginning each day at 10a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m. This event will provide instructional cheer classes to Junior High and High School squads only. Check-in for the clinic will begin @ 9:30a.m. on June 2nd.The cost of camp is $50 per participant, which includes the camp, t-shirt, and snacks. For more information, contact us at 334-229-4507 or cheerleaders@alasu.edu Freda Freeman-Jackson Division I Basketball Camp – June 18-21 Cost is $125, including a $25 non-refundable application fee. Girls ages eight to 18 are eligible to attend. Campers receive instruction in fundamental skills, team concepts and principles of sportsmanship. Each camper will receive a T-shirt and is guaranteed individual and team instruction on fundamentals, and daily awards. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Youth Football Camp (Montgomery) – June 4 - 8 Cost is $200 per student (lunch will be provided daily), Boys in the 1first - eighth grades are eligible to attend. The camp is a position-specific camp. Campers will participate in on-the-field practice sessions including agility work, individual drills with Alabama State coaches, one-on-one drills, meetings with coaching staff, and more. Last day to register is June 3. Check-in is 7:30 - 8 a.m. Camp will run from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday-Friday. Only ninth - 12th graders are eligible to attend.The camp is a position-specific camp. Campers will participate in on-the-field practice sessions including agility work, individual drills with Alabama State coaches, one-on-one drills, meetings with coaching staff, and more. The camp will begin at 9 a.m. on June 9, at The ASU Stadium. For more information, call the football office at 334-229-4444. Pound the Rock OL/DL Camp/ 7 on 7 Team Camp. – June 26. Check-in is 9 a.m.-10 a.m. Only ninth - 12th graders are eligible to attend this camp.The cost is $150 for one team (15 members per team) and $250 for two teams. OL/DL $25 per player with team. School checks or money orders should be made payable to the ASU FOUNDATION (no personal checks). Cash is accepted. Please have your payment when you arrive. Our business office and compliance office will not allow us to accept teams/campers who have not paid.
