Alabama State University Student Accepted to Yale Pre-doctoral Program

Alabama State University Student Accepted to Yale Pre-doctoral Program
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on June 06, 2018

Alabama State University's Breana Rucker has been accepted into a Yale University pre-doctoral fellowship program. The program is a full-time, post baccalaureate program designed to prepare individuals wishing to gain valuable training and experience toward a career in academic research in economics or public policy.

Rucker said she is thrilled and recognizes the significance of the opportunity.

“Being accepted into a university as prestigious as Yale was gratifying,” Rucker said. “After my application made it through the first round, I had a skype interview with the dean of graduate studies, and a few weeks later I received a phone call congratulating me on my acceptance.

I was awarded an annual stipend and fellowship to attend school and while there, I will be studying organizational behavior.”

Through Yale’s pre-doctoral program, Rucker said she hopes to gain invaluable research experience, expand her professional network, and utilize the opportunity to further her educational goals. Upon completion of the program, she plans to enroll in a Ph.D. program at a major research university.

Rucker, a native of San Bernardino, Calif., graduated from ASU in December 2017. She said all of her professors at ASU were instrumental in guiding and encouraging her throughout her college experience. She said any student wishing to attend ASU should step out of their comfort zone, don’t give up and always network.

“Take advantage of every opportunity available to you,” Rucker said. “Begin your journey of success on day one. When applying to grad school or any job, admission officers love to see a track record of excellence. Lastly, do not underestimate the power of relationships; diversify and grow your network through attending conferences in your field, applying for internships, and connecting with your professors.”
