Nutrition Open Rank Faculty Position
Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition
The University of Delaware
Newark, Delaware

We seek an open-rank (Assistant, Associate, Full), tenure-track professor to join an award-winning faculty at a time of growth and expansion for the University of Delaware’s College of Health Sciences. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in nutritional science or related field, post-doctoral experience, a background commensurate with rank, and an active research program. Successful teaching experience preferred. Primary responsibilities include conducting nationally visible, funded research in human nutrition research, preferably with a focus on nutritional genomics, nutritional immunology, nutritional epidemiology, or the human microbiome, as related to human health and disease; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in macronutrient/micronutrient metabolism, nutritional informatics, and related areas, supervising M.S. and Ph.D. students; and university service. All faculty are expected to contribute to a welcoming campus environment that embraces inclusion and diversity.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition (BHAN) includes undergraduate programs in Applied Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, and Health Behavior Science. There are master’s programs in Human Nutrition and Health Promotion, and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Medical Sciences. BHAN has over 800 students, and is known for rapidly growing research and dynamic teaching.

Ranked fifth, nationally, among the best places to study the health professions by College Factual, the College of Health Sciences is a thriving academic unit of over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students and 130 faculty with outstanding research and teaching facilities. The College has recently opened an exciting new 100,000 sq. ft. clinical research facility (pictured above) and will occupy 7 floors in a 10-story tower opening in Fall 2018. The College also includes the departments of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physical Therapy, and the School of Nursing. With annual research expenditures of approximately $26 million, the College currently houses a number of large, interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from the NIH and DoD. The college boasts strong research teams in the areas of cardiovascular health, neurological disorders, and other chronic disease conditions, as well as rehabilitation science and concussion. There are also numerous collaborative linkages with our clinical partners.

With roots tracing back to 1743, the University of Delaware combines tradition and innovation, offering students a rich heritage along with the latest in instructional and research technology. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer with diversity as one of its core values and, in that spirit, seeks a broad spectrum of candidates including women, minorities and people with disabilities. The University of Delaware is the recipient of a National Science Foundation ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Grant, focused on enhancing the climate of the university for women and underrepresented minority faculty. Located in scenic Newark, Delaware, within 2 hours of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., the University is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant, and Carnegie Research University (with very high research activity, a designation accorded to fewer than 3% of degree-granting institutions in the U.S.), and with external funding exceeding $200 million. A state-assisted, privately governed institution, the University enrolls approximately 17,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduate students.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Compensation packages are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Faculty at the University have regularly received annual cost-of-living and merit salary increases and the benefits package is one of the best in the nation. Relocation and start-up funds are available. Appointment date is negotiable.

TO APPLY: Review of applications will begin on August 1, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled. Nominations and expressions of interest will be held in confidence and references will be contacted only with the candidate’s permission. Applicants should upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references at https://apply.interfolio.com/44873. The letter of application and CV will be shared with the search committee. For information contact Jillian Trabulsi, Ph.D., R.D. Search Committee Chair, via email: trabulsi@udel.edu, or phone: 302-831-4991.
