Day is the first woman to receive a Ph.D. in Computer Science from North Carolina A&T State University. Siobahn, a 2009 graduate who earned a master’s degree in computer information science from NCCU’s School of Business, has an distinct passion for computer information science. In addition to operating a web and graphic design company, Dreams Creative Group, she has worked in higher education for over 10 years including roles such as an instructor at a number of colleges and universities, where she taught computer science courses. Job: Lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro About You Who would you choose as the one person who has impacted your life the greatest? My parents. They are simply amazing. How did your education prepare for your career? My education helped me advance in my career and further spurred me to pursue a Ph.D. What advice would you give a current college student? Maximize your time at NCCU, take advantage of every opportunity, and do all things in excellence! Career Tell us about your job. I’m a new faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the department of Computer Science. I inspire, teach, do research and serve. Sounds of the office? What music are you feeling this week? This week I’m currently listening to H.E.R.’s new album, I Used to Know Her: The Prelude. How has working in your industry changed the way you look at the world? With technology ever changing, I’m challenged to stay abreast and learn new things. The constant evolution of technology keeps me in a creative space. Who/What do you look to for inspiration? I read a lot. This involves news (current, tech, business, etc.), daily scripture, and also books for enrichment. They all inspire me to get involved (community) and also work on becoming a better me each and every day. How do you handle work-life balance? It’s something I continuously work on. I have learned the power of saying “no” and accepting that I can’t do it all. What is an important quality you look for in your relationships with others? Authenticity.
