Posted By: How May I Help You NC on August 31, 2018 Assistant Professor, Organic Chemistry Department of Chemistry The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics FCSM-N-3218 Position: The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor position in the Department of Chemistry beginning August 2019. Qualifications: A PhD in Organic Chemistry is required. Postdoctoral experience and/or undergraduate teaching experience is highly desired. The department is particularly interested in candidates whose research interests complement existing strengths in total synthesis and organometallic chemistry, but strong candidates in all areas of organic chemistry will receive full consideration. Candidates with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations of students are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities: The standard instructional workload is seven to eight (7-8) course units. Research active faculty may request to replace one course unit with their research activity. Faculty will be assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching general chemistry at the introductory level and may have the opportunity to teach upper-level courses in their area of expertise. The applicant is expected to establish a competitive research program involving undergraduate students, and to pursue extramural funding. Department of Chemistry: The Department of Chemistry (www.towson.edu/fcsm/departments/chemistry/) is ACS accredited, with 19 tenured or tenure-track faculty actively engaged in externally funded research involving undergraduates and graduate students. The department enrolls over 400 undergraduates in chemistry, forensic chemistry and chemistry secondary education, and 45 graduate students in the Forensic Science Masters Program. The department supports interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Science and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics (MB3). Additional collaborative opportunities may be available with science faculty in the departments of Biology, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences (PAGS).
