Prairie View Ranks Top in Starting Salaries of Graduates

Prairie View Ranks Top in Starting Salaries of Graduates
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on September 10, 2018

Prairie View A&M University can now they can add two more accolades to the admission material: as a producer of graduates with some of the highest initial earning potential in all Historically Black Colleges and University’s (HBCU) and also in the state of Texas.

EdSmart.org ranked the Top Historically Black Colleges by Starting Average Salary, where students earn the best average starting salaries upon graduation. Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) tops the list of all 101 HBCU’s, with students earning an average of $50,000 in their first job out of school.

Another recent study by financial website SmartAsset ranked the Top 10 Texas Colleges Where Students Earn the Best Average Starting Salaries Upon Graduation, where PVAMU ranks eighth out of 148 Texas collegiate institutions.

The salary ranking is part of a larger SmartAsset study that looked at five factors (tuition, student living costs, scholarship and grant offerings, retention rate, and starting salary) to determine the best value colleges and universities.

These findings come in an era where students are taking on staggering amounts of debt vs. future income. The average annual growth rate for the cost to attend a four-year university between 1989 and 2016 was 2.6 percent per year, compared to a low 0.3 percent annual growth in wages, according to SmartAsset.

Most students often overlook the fact that a degree from an expensive or highly prestigious school often doesn’t translate into higher earnings. Choosing a school that offers a high starting salary should be one factor that students consider in their choice of education providers.

For more information on how to apply to Prairie View A&M University, visit the PVAMU Admissions website.
