Alabama State University Staff Member Named as Task Force Member to National Diversity Abroad Network
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 14, 2018

Dr. Linwood Whitten will represent minority serving institutions on its task force for the 2018-2019 Term

The nationally acclaimed Diversity Abroad Network in Global Education (Diversity Abroad) has chosen Alabama State University's director of the office of Diversity & International Affairs to serve on its task force.

ASU's Dr. Linwood Whitten will serve a one-year term as a Task Force Member with the Diversity Abroad Network, said Dr. Davida Haywood, vice president of Student Affairs at ASU. He is one of four HBCU faculty and staff members to be named to the Task Force. Other members include Barbara Davis (Bethune Cookman University), Robert Peterson (Morehouse College), and Jewell Winn (Tennessee State University).

"This is a notable first for the University to have one of our own serve on this prestigious board that works to advance access and diversity," said Haywood.

Whitten will serve in the thematic area for minority serving institutions, as the task force works to bring together global education and diversity professionals to provide critical guidance and support to the organization's multi-faceted initiatives. In addition to his role in overseeing diversity and inclusion at ASU, Whitten also oversees the U. S. Department of State's F-1 and J-1 visa programs for foreign students.

"I am honored to serve and will work to contribute to the development of new and valuable resources in the field of global education," Whitten said.

ABOUT DIVERSITY ABROAD
Diversity Abroad was founded in 2006 on a simple concept - all students deserve equitable access to global educational opportunities. Since its inception, Diversity Abroad, among other activities, has directly connected with thousands of students, visited hundreds of college campuses, secured over $1million in scholarship funds, and provided education professionals and faculty with professional learning opportunities.
