Posted By: How May I Help You NC on September 24, 2018 The IT and Applications Development Manager leads Room to Read’s Information Technology (IT) team based in the San Francisco, CA headquarters. This Manager is responsible for leading the IT function, project scoping, development, implementation, and direct supervision of the team – an IT Associate Manager and a Salesforce Database Administrator. Indirectly, the function supervises seven IT staff and two outside consultants in nine Southern Asia, Southeast Asia and Southern African countries. The successful candidate must have an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to create business value through automating manual workflows, developing APIs to seamlessly integrate existing enterprise-wide systems and recommending application solutions to deliver our programs in a more efficient and effective manner. The IT and Applications Development Manager reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer. Duties & Responsibilities: -Develop customized solutions and identify SaaS and PaaS solutions compatible with our various platforms; to support critical business functions, and meet project objectives, internal client business requirements and company goals -Manage Room to Read’s global IT environment and staff -Design, develop, and unit test application upgrades and system API integrations in accordance with established standards -Work with end users in various departments to identify, document, and communicate standard business processes, work flows and system change business requirements -Define, communicate, and manage a change management (release) process to develop and implement new applications, business processes and work flows, and manage updates to existing applications -Collaborate with various internal departments, including Development and Communications, Finance and Accounting, HR, International Operations, and Program Design and Technical Assistance to ensure our IT environment supports internal and external needs relating to functionality and performance -Stay up-to-date on the latest technology releases, applications, integrations, and opportunities to recommend appropriate business solutions for Room to Read business requirements -Understand internal client requirements and how they translate in application features -Collaborate with a team of IT professionals to set specifications for new applications -Design creative prototypes according to specifications -Potentially, write high quality source code to program complete applications within deadlines -Perform unit and integration testing before new applications or application revisions launch -Conduct functional and non-functional testing -Troubleshoot and debug applications -Evaluate existing applications to reprogram, update and add new features -Develop technical documents and handbooks to accurately represent application design and code -Liaise with external implementation partners as required -Other duties as necessary Qualifications: Required: -Minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years of relevant professional work experience with at least three years of experience as a developer -BSc/BA in computer science or relevant field is preferred -Excellent project management skills including the ability to write requirements that are clear and concise, facility project team meetings and communicate effectively with Subject -Matter Experts and other non-technical staff -Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people -Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization -Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative -Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead -High level of customer service - must be able to recognize the needs of customers and create or identify new applications that answer those needs -Must be able to clearly communicate their ideas to developers, teammates, implementation partners and management -Proven ability to creatively invent new approaches to problems and develop innovative applications, and make decisions that efficiently and effectively move the project forward -Very strong attention to detail in most areas including coding, application evaluation, testing, documenting and change management -Experience working successful in a team environment as a leader or team member -Must have an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Azure SaaS and PaaS -Experience with the following technologies and frameworks: -C# and the .NET platform for Windows and cross-platform development -Front and backend web development (e.g. MEAN stack or others), familiarity with Ed -Tech and digital content delivery is a plus -Familiarity with the following technologies currently in use at Room to Read: -Node.js -Ruby on Rails -Git + Github and Bitbucket -In-depth knowledge of programming for Windows and Linux operating systems and platforms using development tools -Excellent understanding of MVC software design and programming principles -Working knowledge of supervising staff, budgeting and management responsibilities -Certified application developer is a plus -Experience with the software development life cycle and familiarity with software development methodologies, e.g. Agile -Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English -Ability and desire to travel internationally as required -Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided Compensation: Room to Read offers a competitive salary with excellent benefits.
