Full-time Equivalent Student Growth Up 1.9% for Fall 2018

Full time equivalent student enrollment for Fall 2018 grew 1.9% year over year at Fort Valley State University, the university announced this week. Overall enrollment was up as well— growing by 0.9% to total 2,776 undergraduate, graduate, and online students. This growth continues an upward trend, including Summer 2018 enrollment growth of 18.8%, the fourth largest in the state university system. FVSU’s enrollment has increased each of the past three years.

“FVSU’s enrollment is headed in the right direction,” said Dr. Paul Jones, FVSU president. “We continue to refine our academic programs to deliver the most effective and relevant instruction, expand co-curricular opportunities for leadership and service, and design ways to deliver content by embracing technology. Our commitment to creating the College of the Future is showing in our ability to attract talented students.”

FVSU continues to enhance its state and national reputation, having been named the #1 public HBCU in Georgia by U.S. News and World Report earlier this year. The institution bests all other state public teaching colleges in federal science, technology, engineering, and math research, and is listed as the top affordable online program in areas including psychology and rehabilitation counseling.

SR Education Group named FVSU 2017’s “Most Affordable Online School for Student Economic Mobility,” and bestvalueschools.com ranked FVSU #8 on its list of “Best Value Historically Black Graduate Schools.” College Raptor ranked FVSU #8 on its national list of “Top 10 Colleges with Tuition Under $20,000.”

About Fort Valley State University

Founded in 1895, Fort Valley State University, a University System of Georgia institution, is one of the nation’s most innovative and affordable academic institutions. Leveraging its unique role as Georgia’s only 1890 land-grant institution, the college conducts more science, technology, engineering and math federal research than any other public teaching college in the state, making curriculum-enhancing research opportunities available to students learning to be leaders in innovation. The university’s undergraduate and graduate traditional and online degree programs enroll almost 3,000 students from all over the world. Named the most affordable online school in the nation for student economic mobility, the university has produced more African Americans with mathematics degrees than any other college in the nation in two of the past four years. FVSU students participate in more than 80 academic and civic organizations, honor societies and study abroad programs.
