Behind the Experience: 5 Ways to Create a Customer-Friendly Restaurant

Behind the Experience: 5 Ways to Create a Customer-Friendly Restaurant
Posted By: Dixie Somers on February 28, 2019

Creating a customer-friendly restaurant may require some planning and a strong desire to keep your customer’s needs a top priority. If you feel your restaurant isn’t very strong in the customer relations area, make a goal to work on it! Here are a few ways you can work toward great experiences and happy customers.

Be Friendly

One way to create a customer experience obsessed environment is to increase the friendliness of your staff. Make customer service a top priority when training your staff. Most customers will stop coming to a restaurant if they experience poor customer service. Remember, customer service begins the moment they open the door to your restaurant. A few suggestions on customer service techniques can turn your restaurant into more than just a place to eat. There are ways your staff can show customer friendliness:
• Instruct your staff to speak and treat customers with courtesy. Smiles and friendliness go a long way with customers.
• Every customer wants and needs to be treated with respect and kindness. How your staff reacts to situation will help determine how your customers react to them.
• Guests should never be rushed. Sensing that the waiter wants to make room for other guests will make everyone uncomfortable.

Reward Your Customers

Put in place a customer loyalty program. Customers like getting something back and it is a great way to encourage them to come back and to also send out referrals. Cards, coupons and gifts given upon membership and other rewards will keep customers coming back to you time and time again.

Turn Bad Experiences Around

Bad experiences are not good for business—especially when they are not handled quickly or with respect.

Don’t let customers leave without solving their problem with a good solution like giving them a free meal. Be sure to train your staff on how to handle customer disputes. When problems with food or service arise, fix the problem or offer something free to help placate your customer.
However, don’t fall into the trap of putting the customers before your staff. If you want happy, loyal customers, you want a happy, loyal group of employees. Let your employees know that you trust them to do the right thing. Encourage them to do all they can to make customers happy and, if needed, back them up in situations.

Equip Your Kitchen

Remember: a kitchen that runs smoothly means food will get to your customers faster. Your kitchen needs the right equipment such as commercial refrigerators, grills, oven, deep-fryer, shelving, drainage systems, cookware and linens, and point-of-sale systems. If your kitchen staff doesn’t have the proper equipment, the work can’t be done correctly. Encourage the decline of mistakes and the increase of flawless work with great equipment and a well-oiled working routine for your kitchen.

Offer a Surprise

Do something unexpected now and then. Offer a surprise by choosing one or two customers and give them a free desert, free drinks or a free dinner. This will encourage customers to return on the off chance that it might happen again. If you show your customers kindness, they’ll want to return the favor.

To conclude, creating a customer friendly restaurant is doable but it takes some work. However, if you do the required planning and have a strong desire to keep your customer’s needs a top priority, your hard work will pay off.
