Central State hurdler Juan Scott prepares to defend national title this weekend

Central State hurdler Juan Scott prepares to defend national title this weekend
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on March 06, 2019

As the reigning 60 meter hurdles national champion, Central State University junior Juan Scott aims to defend his title during this weekend's NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Scott qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for 60 meter men's hurdles. He competes on the national stage this Friday at 2:45 pm cst (3:45 pm est). The finals will be held on Saturday at 5:10 pm cst (6:10 pm est).

Scott, who was named to the USTFCCCA South Region Athlete of the Year earlier this week, has recorded three wins during the 2018-19 indoor season which includes a victory at last month's Ohio State University Tune-Up where he ran a season-best time of 7.90 seconds.

Scott is the only Marauder to compete in the NCAA Indoor National Track & Field Championships in three consecutive seasons.

As a freshman, Scott finished in 12th place with a pace of 8.18. Last season, Scott made school history by becoming the first CSU student-athlete to claim an NCAA Div. II indoor individual title since the program earned exclusive NCAA Div. II membership in 2004. He took home the 2018 title with a time of 7.83 seconds to edge Pittsburg State senior Justice Burks' pace of 7.85.

For the second consecutive season, the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas will serve as the site to the NCAA Div. II Indoor Championships. Pittsburg State University and the Crawford County Convention & Visitors Bureau will serve as co-hosts of the championships. The championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
