NABOB Media Sales Institute Partners with HBCUConnect.com for Scholarship Awads in 2019

NABOB Media Sales Institute Partners with HBCUConnect.com for Scholarship Awads in 2019
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on March 18, 2019

The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters Telecommunications Education and Management Foundation (NABOB Foundation), HBCUConnect.com and The Emma Bowen Foundation are pleased to announce their partnership in awarding at least one scholarship (and possibly more) to its membership to attend “The NABOB Media Sales Institute at the AUC” in Atlanta, June 3-13, 2019.

The Media Sales Institute (MSI) is an intense ten-day program designed to properly expose and prepare career changers, college graduates and military personnel (Post 9/11) for a career in media sales. Personal Selling Principles (PSP) is the developer of the MSI program and serves as the facilitator at the AUC.

Since the launch of the MSI program at the AUC in 2016, 94% of the graduates have received at least one offer (and as many as eight) to start their media sales careers. The 2018 class of candidates hailed from 10 colleges, universities, and alumni associations; with twenty-two sales recruiters (from ten media companies) participating in two days of recruitment and making offers to the candidates to “formally” interview with their companies.

Jim Winston, President of NABOB states "The NABOB Foundation is pleased to partner with the Emma Bowen Foundation and HBCUConnect.com. The Media Sales Institute has grown into a very effective program that produces graduates who are ready and able to perform at a very high level the day they walk into their first media sales jobs. The NABOB Foundation is proud to be a sponsor of this valuable program, which is good for the graduates and good for the media industry. I am confident that many of the future leaders and station owners in our industry will come from the MSI; and our partnership with the Emma Bowen Foundation and HBCUConnect.com will help increase our number of future leaders.” said Jim Winston.

Everette Harrison, Social Media Manager of the Emma Bowen Foundation states “EBF is proud to partner with NABOB this year and looking forward to helping find candidates for this year’s MSI class of 2019”.

Reginald Culpepper, President of Online Operations & Fulfillment for HBCUConnect.com states "Together with NABOB, we are excited to expose HBCU students and alumni to this wonderful career opportunity. We have been supporters of the program for the past 3 years; and to now be a part of the process is truly fantastic. I know our members will be excited to participate; as much as we are excited to present the opportunity to them.”

About NABOB and the NABOB Foundation
NABOB is the only trade organization representing the interests of African-American owners of radio and television stations across the country. The association was organized in 1976 by a small group of African-American broadcasters who desired to establish a voice and a viable presence in the industry to address specific concerns facing African American broadcasters. The NABOB Foundation was created to help prepare the next generation of broadcast station owners and managers.

About Emma Bowen Foundation
The Emma Bowen Foundation (EBF) was founded in 1989 to diversify the media industry by giving talented students of color the opportunity to intern at some of the nation’s leading media companies. During its history, the Foundation has provided internships for more than 1,000 students of color. Today, EBF builds on its legacy by continuing to connect promising students of color to internships and advocating for best practices in hiring, retention, and advancement in the media and technology industries.
