Dr. Warmack to serve as ninth president of Claflin University

Dr. Warmack to serve as ninth president of Claflin University

Claflin University announces former president of Harris Stowe State University, Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack, to serve as the ninth president of the historically black university.

The Claflin’s Board of Trustees announced at a press conference on Monday, June 10th that Warmack will replace Dr. Henry Tisdale, who announced his retirement last year after 25 years as president.

Dr. Warmack resigned from his position after serving five years as president of Harris-Stowe State University in Missouri.

Under Warwick’s leadership, Harris Stowe received more than $24 million in external funding, including a $5 million STEM grant which is the largest in school history.

With Warmack’s partnerships with regional organizations, other higher education institutions and alumni donors, his contribution has strengthened Harris-Stowe’s infrastructure. Dr. Warmack is now committed to developing programs that advocate diversity, pluralism, and cultural competency at Claflin.

“It is an honor to serve at one of the nation’s leading Historically Black College and Universities,” says President Warmack, “as I believe my 20 years of experience allow me to do what I am called to do, be a servant leader.”

Dr. Warmack will begin his term at Claflin University, the first Historically Black College and University in South Carolina, effective August 1, 2019. Provost Dwayne Smith will serve as interim president at Harris Stowe during Dr. Warmack’s leave.
