Alabama State Universit Awarded $75k Grant from Thurgood Marshall College Fund to Implement Apple Technology!
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on June 20, 2019

The grant awards Apple technology and training at ASU that benefits it, the Montgomery community, MPS & Trenholm State

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) has awarded a $75,000 grant to Alabama State University to infuse Apple technology in to the University's classroom, help build institutional expertise and capabilities, graduate ASU students who are job-ready with industry‐level certifications, and additionally share the expertise and training with Trenholm State Community College(TSCC), the Montgomery Public School System (MPS) and the River Region community at-large.

The $75,000 grant is for an execution period of six months with such activities to include multiple Apple applications at ASU, as well as conducting training for instructors from the MPS on Apple's "Swift Playground," giving each of the instructors an Apple iPad and a keyboard (valued at $500) through the ASU grant, as well as similar things for TSCC and the community, said Dr. Kamal Hingorani, dean of ASU's Vaughn College of Business Administration, and the overseer of the grant.

"This Thurgood Marshall College Fund grant gives Apple technology and training for the University, Trenholm, MPS and the Montgomery community that has wide and positive technology-related implications that helps accomplish what ASU President Ross terms 'communiversity,' which means to infuse help, assistance and understanding between the University and the outside community," Hingorani said.

MPS & TRENHOLM STUDENTS GET APPLE TRAINING @ ASU
As part of the grant, MPS and Trenholm students will be able to register for a class concerning Apple's "CIS 305- Mobile App Development" using Swift technology at ASU at no cost. These students will earn ASU credits and will also get a financial incentive of $750 each towards the cost of an Apple device.

Dean Hingorani added that the ASU-TMCF grant will allow the University to also invest added technology in to the Montgomery community for computer-related training.

"We would like to help adopt the mantra that 'Everyone Can Code' in our local community, and that Alabama State University is committed to providing substantial internal
resources and leadership to move us more in to the technologies of the 21st century; making this project even more successful. We wish to thank the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and its administrators who believe in ASU and similar schools, and whom invest in our student's future," Hingorani said.
