Posted By: Hija Chang on August 07, 2019 The Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA), a progressive water utility providing water, sewer and reclaimed water services to the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks a highly responsible, detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Communications Specialist. The purpose of this position is to develop and provide timely and relevant information for customers and stakeholders, support meaningful community engagement, and foster the development of water champions in the community. This is accomplished by developing project specific communication plans and supporting tools; researching and writing informative and compelling content efficiently; helping to strengthen community partnerships; coordinating communication and community engagement activities; supporting the external communication needs of OWASA’s teams to improve communications with customers, in close partnership with engineering, operations and other groups; supporting emergency communications; seeding content on existing channels; and helping to develop new channels according to the annual communications plan. Minimum requirements include an Associate’s degree with one to three years of relatable experience and an excellent, above average aptitude with Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint products. Valid North Carolina Class C driver’s license required. Position will require participation at various community events that may be outside the normal work hours (night or weekend functions) and frequently exerts 10 pounds and occasionally exerts up to 20 pounds. The ideal candidate will be an action-oriented strategic-thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to foster stakeholder trust and confidence. Effective interpersonal skills are a must in our team environment. OWASA provides excellent benefits to include membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System.
